10 NFL Questions I Need You’re Help With
October 29, 2008 |
So, as you may or may not know I am currently studying in Italy. As awesome as it is there is one thing I miss from home that is really tearing me up inside… American football. Specifically, the NFL brand. I got to watch all of one preseason game before embarking on my fall adventure so I am seriously craving some NFL action.
As such, I don’t really know what’s going on in the NFL these days. Sure I can watch highlights, read articles, and follow gametrax but that doesn’t do it justice. I don’t have a “sense” of the league this year. So, I’m turning to you guys to answer some of my personal burning questions:
- Are the Titans really that good? Undefeated sure but Super Bowl winning potential? Kerry Collins… what?
- Are the Detroit Lions really that bad? I mean, they’re always bad but really that bad? Could they really go 0-16?
- What’s happened to Vince Young? This ties in to the first question but last I heard he was still upset with his life, any updates on that?
- What is this “Wildcat Offense?” I guess that’s what they called what Miami did against New England and some of what Baltimore did against Oakland but I’ve never heard of it. Someone, please, enlighten me.
- What is happening to my Dallas Cowboys? They start great, look shaky, virtually everybody gets hurt, they trade for Roy Williams, they lose to the Rams then beat the Bucs, now they may go to Brooks Bollinger at QB, Wade Phillips is playing a bigger role on defense, Jason Witten might be out with a broken rib… I mean WTF!?!?! Someone give me some hope, or at least some clarity!
- What’s happened to the juggernaut that was the Denver Broncos? I lost track of how they were doing but I thought they were an offensive powerhouse steam rolling the AFC West? Is that still the case?
- What has happened to Peyton Manning and Brett Favre? From what I’m reading/gleaning they aren’t what they used to be. Does it have more to do with them or the team’s they are on?
- Who is the best team in each conference? Talk of the best seems to have quieted lately and there doesn’t seem to be much consensus. From what I gather many are labelling the Titans the AFC’s (maybe NFL’s) best almost by default so based on your feel who’s coming out of each conference?
- Finally, who is going to win the Super Bowl? Seriously, right now, who would you put money on?
- Is there anything else interesting that I should be asking about? Please, let me know all the news and rumors from the league and game I love.
All right guys and gals. Any help with these questions will be appreciated. Feel free to elaborate as much as you’d like. Cìao!

I’ll give it a shot…since you asked.
1) I think they’re good, but not THAT good. They are good at managing games, and getting the most out of what they have. And even though their defensive numbers are incredible, Indy is the only explosive offense they have faced (and the Colts are struggling right now). I think they’ll coast into to the playoffs but not the Super Bowl.
2) Yes, the Lions are that bad.
3) Vince finally realized that he just isn’t very good.
4) I think it came from Krypton.
5) Their destruction has been blown out of proportion. They need a little luck in the health department, and they will be fine. Unfortunately.
6) It all falls apart when you can’t stop the rushing attack…and Denver has been horrible at it.
7) Favre is what he used to be. A reckless gunslinger with high interception totals. Manning and the Colts are just out of sync, I expect them to get it rolling towards the end of the season.
9) I wouldn’t put money on it.
10) You should be asking what kind of deal with the devil Kyle Orton made in order to become a real quarterback.

1. Solid team that has went to the playoffs despite the liability at QB. Now they have Collins who is an upgrade and the Titans are exceeding all expectations.
2. They can’t D up and now with the rookie QB they can’t score. Bad combo. They won games last year because they had the ability to score. They have a nice look at 0-16.
3. We thought he was a warrior. Maybe he isn’t. It makes me shake my head.
4. Wildcat offence I believe is from an NCAA team (Kentucky?). I am not an NCAA hardcore so someone help me out…
5. Dallas’ D has HUGE holes and they aren’t clicking on offence. Want to fix that? Play better on special teams and convert on 3rd downs.
6. They are fraudulent and should be 1-6. They have horseshoes up their ass.
7. Peyton’s gotta be hurt. Doesn’t help that guys are dropping passes into their opponents hands plus their O-line has been hurt as well. I don’t know how you can play with a Staph infection because I’ve never had one. As for Favre, the Jets aren’t that great and Favre had a better offensive team in Green Bay, plus he’s in his late-30’s which means a decline is imminent.
8. Tennessee in the AFC and the NY Giants in the NFC. The NFC has improved.
9. Weird that I dropped the best teams in each conference and I won’t pick either of them to win the Super Bowl. I am going off the charts on this one: Carolina.
10. Jose Calderon is a very good Point Guard on the offensive end.

well, the wildcat is that gay offense from like the 30’s before we in the SEC figured out how to forward pass. its like the wing-t without all the backs. you just hike the ball to your RB and occasionally throw it up field to scare the safety into staying put. It worked on SC (gamecocks) in the 1st half to the tune of 300 offensive yards. the second half, we killed that shit. it’s a gay offense.

I think it’s good for the Cowboys to fall apart in mid season instead of the playoffs. They’ll rebound, and they will have that case of the yips out of their system.
Yes the Lions are that bad and will be that bad for the foreseeable future.
Titans are a solid team. Collins is doing a good job managing the game and not loosing the game.
Vince has some mental issues he needs to work out. No not the fact that he’s a moron, I don’t think that can be worked out.
He’s a little fragile, he got booed a couple of times then fell apart like Brett Favre when he made his first retirement speech.

Shooter: Wait, wait, wait. Kyle Orton’s doing well? How did this happen?
I hear Culpepper is signing with the Lions, does that guarantee a victory?
TheDan: Carolina, eh? I haven’t heard anything about them from across the pond. What makes you think they have a shot?
Looks like the Raptors are really turning things around. I’m going to have to start checking out some NBA stuff soon.
Demon: Do you think it can be effective and not “gay” if it’s utilized like the Ravens did (ie, two Quarterbacks on the field at the same time)?
Miracle: I hope you’re right about the Cowboys and I kind of had the same thought. Get them mentally tough for the stretch run. Of course, being mentally tough means nothing if they miss the playoffs altogether.
